Upcoming gender-related enrolment updates

February 23, 2022

gsc update

Last year, GSC launched a gender affirmation offering as a standard enhancement to benefit plans. Our goal was to position plan sponsors to best align their benefits plan coverage with their own diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) commitments in order to support plan members throughout their gender transition journey. Read about it again in this and in the of The advantage.

Gender-related enrolment updates are being developed, with the following terminology changes appearing in Online Administration – our self-serve enrolment platform – very soon. Our standard enrolment forms have also been updated.

  • The “gender” label will be updated to “sex”.
  • The current label for “unidentified” will be updated to “undisclosed” for plan members who do not wish to disclose how they identify.
  • In 2022, a fourth identifier of “non-binary” will be added for plan members who do not identify as male or female and will be available for plan sponsors without pooled benefits. For those plan sponsors with pooled benefits, this will be carrier- and/or plan sponsor-dependent.

These updates will become our standard terminology and enrolment identifiers going forward and will be updated on reports and other platforms at a later date.

Speak with your GSC account team if you need to discuss alternative terminology and identifiers to display in Online Administration.
